On August 21, the Government of Armenia approved the draft Law on Climate — a groundbreaking step that, for the first time, sets a legal and institutional framework for climate policy in the country.
This law establishes the powers and responsibilities of national, regional, and local authorities in tackling climate change. More importantly, it opens the door to:
1️⃣Clear goals and tools for emission reduction and adaptation policies,
2️⃣New investment opportunities through country-to-country and business-to-business mechanisms, turning emission reductions into tradable assets,
3️⃣Additional financial resources from international partners,
4️⃣Favorable conditions for Armenian exporters in the EU market, especially with the upcoming Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) in 2026.
For Armenia, this is more than lawmaking — it’s a step toward technological modernization, stronger global cooperation, and a greener economy.
